This report presents global status information on transboundary water cooperation and the need to accelerate action to achieve Target 6.5 by 2030, using the latest data from indicator 6.5.2. The global average of SDG indicator 6.5.2 stands at 59 percent, meaning that among the 117 countries able to calculate the SDG indicator, the average proportion of transboundary basin area managed under cooperative arrangements is 59 percent. This figure has not changed significantly since 2017 and 2020, indicating that many transboundary basins remain unprotected by cooperative agreements.
