On January 24, 2023, Dr. Thatchai Keeratipongpaiboon, Director of the Strategy and International Cooperation Division, Dr. Charunya Saiyud, Senior Policy and Planning Analyst, and officials from the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) conducted a field visit to Kalasin Province to discuss with relevant agencies and sectors in the area regarding cooperation approaches for Kalasin Province to become one of the pilot areas for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level. Mr. Thamon Lekpreechakul, Data and Reporting Officer from the United Nations (UN) Thailand, also participated in this field mission.
The discussions focused on creating understanding among local agencies regarding the objectives of operations aimed at driving Kalasin Province’s development to achieve concrete results in accordance with SDGs guidelines, by leveraging the combined efforts of development partners from all sectors, including government, private sector, education sector, civil society, and international organizations, to work together and strengthen each other, possibly starting with urgent challenges in the area such as poverty, public health, and education. Relevant government agencies in the area at both provincial level, with Mr. Prachaya Oonphetworakorn, Deputy Governor of Kalasin Province, chairing the morning session meeting, and municipal level, with Mr. Charuwat Boonperm, Mayor of Kalasin Municipality, chairing the afternoon meeting, confirmed their participation as a pilot area for local-level SDGs implementation, while exchanging opinions on approaches for becoming a pilot area.
