Tripartite Steering Committee Meeting to Drive Sustainable Development Cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations Country Team in Thailand

On April 3, 2025, Mr. Wanchat Suwannakitti, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, co-chaired with Ms. Pintusutha Chainam, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) for Thailand, the Tripartite Steering Committee Meeting to monitor progress on the implementation of the United Nations Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2022-2026 and prepare for the development of the new UNSDCF for 2027-2031 at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok

Representatives of United Nations agencies in Thailand reported on the implementation results under the UNSDCF for 2022-2026 in three areas: Outcome 1: Enhancing an inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient economy focusing on promoting low-carbon society, enhancing climate adaptation capacity through financial instruments or innovations for sustainable development, pollution control and waste management, as well as promoting environmentally friendly agricultural systems; Outcome 2: Developing human capital ready for digital transformation emphasizing the enhancement of well-being, upgrading skills and capacity of human resources to keep pace with digital technology changes, strengthening digital literacy, developing education systems, reducing basic learning skill gaps, and promoting youth participation in development processes to prepare human resources for effectively driving sustainable development;
and Outcome 3: Reducing inequalities to ensure no one is left behind focusing on promoting rights and protection of migrant populations, promoting human rights, strengthening social protection, and driving SDGs Localization to support comprehensive and inclusive sustainable development at the local level. There was also an exchange of views on approaches to drive all three outcomes that will support development in alignment with the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan. NESDC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and United Nations agencies in Thailand will jointly discuss approaches to scale up projects under the current UNSDCF framework.

Additionally, United Nations agencies in Thailand are in the process of drafting the new UNSDCF, incorporating lessons learned from the evaluation of previous plan implementation and issues expected to be defined in the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan to develop the cooperation framework to promote and support actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in all dimensions in a balanced manner.
