Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Energy is a crucial factor in human life and economic activities, with energy demand continuously expanding. However, reliance on non-renewable energy sources or fossil fuels that are conveniently available and easy to use in various activities has resulted in the energy sector being the largest emitter of greenhouse gases and a major factor in climate change. Therefore, clean energy, particularly renewable energy, is an alternative for enhancing energy management efficiency toward sustainable development, considering environmental impacts, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, enabling people to access and purchase renewable energy more easily, improving quality of life, and responding to changes in the energy sector, the increasing role of digital technology, and the transition to the electrical era. The current energy situation is rapidly changing, particularly technologies related to electricity generation from solar and wind energy, both in terms of energy storage and enhancing electrical system stability, resulting in renewable electricity generation being able to compete with fossil fuels. Moreover, global greenhouse gas emission reduction targets tend to intensify, presenting challenges for agencies involved in energy planning and regulation to adjust policy and strategy directions to align with rapid changes in the energy sector, particularly improving the country’s long-term electricity generation plan that still primarily emphasizes fossil energy and improving regulations that hinder competition in electricity business and renewable electricity generation, such as electricity generation licensing. Additionally, there is a lack of clear direction in developing related infrastructure to support the transition to an electrically-driven society in the future.
Target 7.1
Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services by 2030
Target 7.2
Increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030
Target 7.3
Double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030
Target 7.A
Enhance international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced and cleaner fossil-fuel technology, and promote investment in energy infrastructure and clean energy technology by 2030
Target 7.B
Expand infrastructure and upgrade technology for supplying modern and sustainable energy services for all in developing countries, in particular least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries, in accordance with their respective programmes of support by 2030
