About SDGs – Goal 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns is a key factor in economic development that considers social and environmental costs. This includes promoting efficient use of natural resources and transforming business production models to align with nature. Implementation must occur through
integrated collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society. This involves reducing food loss and waste, proper management of waste and chemicals, supporting 3Rs practices (reduce, reuse, and recycle), applying science and technology to enhance production and consumption, and promoting clean energy use for long-term sustainability. Thailand has developed a sustainable production and consumption action plan to use natural resources efficiently and in balance. The business sector emphasizes sustainable business operations and sustainability reporting based on ESG principles, developing green industries, reducing fossil fuel subsidies, and increasing renewable energy use. The government also promotes sustainable tourism and develops environmental cost accounting. Thailand has higher food waste volumes than the average for upper-middle-income countries. All sectors should urgently address waste management and hazardous waste issues.
