Goal 10: Reduce Inequality Within and Among Countries
Thailand faces inequality problems in multiple dimensions, such as income, wealth, opportunities to access government welfare, infrastructure, essential funding and resources, as well as justice processes, which are significant obstacles to national development. Inequality has therefore become a critical issue that must be addressed, particularly in an era when the global economy is rapidly changing due to technological advancement and innovation, resulting in increased inequality among social groups. The inequality situation in Thailand during 2016-2019 showed a declining trend, especially income inequality. Per capita income of the bottom 40% of the population increased, reducing the income gap. However, wealth inequality remains at a high level, as there has been no comprehensive tax system reform to address this issue. The government has implemented projects and social welfare programs such as newborn child allowances, state welfare cards, elderly and disability allowances, as well as relief measures for those affected by COVID-19 to increase equal opportunities in society.
